Elaine Furlich, Receptionist

Job Description:

My passion and primary responsibility as the church receptionist is to greet people in person or via the phone and make them feel welcome. In addition, I handle numerous office duties that include assisting the administrative and Pastoral Staff. I have served as the receptionist since 1993 with a short time away..

Describe your family:

I’ve been married to my husband Al for 46 years. Al serves as a member of the Host team at the Heritage Service, Sunday mornings. The Lord blessed us with four children and 11 grandchildren. Our oldest daughter, Lynnette, (deceased), married to Jim are the parents of Hannah, Joshua, Rebecca and Marah. Darlene, married to Lee, are the parents of Rachel, Craig and Chad. Aimee, married to Jim, are the parents of Kevin and Brian. Jeffrey, married to Dawn, are the parents of Riley and Robin. Our greatest joy is spending time with our children and grandchildren.

How do you spend your time when not at the church?

When I am not serving at the church I am actively involved in many different ways. Several times a month we baby sit our active 3 year old Grandson Riley and our Granddaughter Robin, born April 24, 2009. “That may be the only thing we do all day”. My Mother, Mary, is 92 years young and lives independently but requires assistance from my sisters and me in providing meals, cleaning, shopping, taking her to Dr. and various other appointments.
I operate a small business from home (Mary Kay). This past winter I was a part of I M HOOKED and crocheted baby blankets for Cornerstone Among Women. I look forward to warm weather as I enjoy planting flowers in my boxes for the front porch, the deck, hanging baskets and anywhere else that I think may need some color. All of our grandchildren live near by so we are able to attend many of their activities. You can regularly find us cheering them on at sports activities such as ice hockey (brrrr), baseball, basketball, soccer or attending concerts, plays or horseback competition. When time permits Al and I enjoy taking an occasional trip to Amish country or just hanging out together enjoying each others company. We also host a Life Group in our home.

Background information:

I was born in Lorain, Ohio the eldest of three sisters and one brother (in that order) and raised by Christian parents. I graduated from Clearview High School and attended Kent State University. While in high school I was actively involved in plays, played clarinet in concert band and was a majorette (head majorette my senior year) in marching band. I’ve worked for a major insurance company in Ohio and California, a large car dealership in Fairview Park and in the credit office of Sears to name a few. My parents owned Mary’s Ice Cream Parlor where I worked as a waitress. I still love ice cream. I believe that all of these different jobs and activities prepared me in serving as the receptionist here at Church of the Open Door, that I truly enjoy.
