Jane Corts
Assistant to Women's Ministries
Job Description:
My role is to do whatever is needed in helping Women’s Ministries and its director accomplish the mission of leading women in the adventure of becoming more like Christ. This can include typing of all sorts, designing publicity pieces, managing the budget, helping set up for events and classes, helping assemble the newsletter, keeping track of attendance to various activities, and generally being the “Gal Friday” for life for Women.
Describe Family:
I’ve been divorced for 20 years and during those times of struggles with job unemployment to now a few part-time jobs, I have wondered how I was going to pay my bills and put food on the table. Amazingly, during those times, God provided…and He still does.
How do you spend your time when not at church?
Serving the church is my passion but I also like watching old movies and spend many a Saturday watching several. And yes, I’m involved in the Flick Chicks activities group. I learned how to crochet in April 2008 and am totally enjoying it and being involved in the I-M-Hooked activity group with the women that showed me how. So far I’ve made over a dozen blankets and even made 38 scarves for Christmas gifts. I am also a part of the Yada Yada Book Club and a Life Group.
Background Information:
I’m the oldest of 3. I graduated from high school and attended Detroit Bible College for 2 years where I sang in the Women’s Chorus, was on the yearbook staff and was involved in the Drama department (I know, I was surprised too!). Several years later, I took several evening computer and early childhood education/development classes at LCCC. I’ve been attending Open Door for over 45 years and have volunteered at the church for over 35 years in many different areas, including VBS, teaching in the toddler rooms and serving as co-director of the nursery many years ago. I’ve also done some work for several of the pastoral staff. I was involved in Evangelism Explosion for many years as secretary and participant. I have attended Ladies Bible Study since it first started. At first, I watched about 40-50 children so their mothers could attend. I stopped attending for a while and then got into Precepts a couple years ago. I began doing some sewing for the Christmas Productions, moved on to helping with props, to being assistant stage manager, and then to becoming Costume Mistress.
