Kay Simington, Accounting Assistant

Job Description:

My responsibilities for the accounting department include contributions, sharing responsibilities for accounts payable and accounts receivable, processing deposits and a lot of general assistance as the needs arise. I also train staff on our database program as well as overseeing the input of information and maintaining the accuracy of our database. I am so blessed to serve our loving and merciful God here at Church of the Open Door in a ministry I feel He has gifted me in.

Describe your family:

My husband, Bob, and I were married right out of high school. We met in our church youth group. We have three children, two daughters and a son. Our daughter Jodi and husband, Rich, have two sons, Kory and Brady; our daughter Bobbi and husband, Mike, have four children, Cody and Cassidy (twins), Carter and Colton; our son Michael, has one son, Jaquarion; and we have a Golden Retriever named Lady.

Background Information:

I was born in Hastings, Michigan (go Blue), the last of seven children. I came to know Christ as my savior when I was 15 years old at church camp. I had intended on becoming a Phys Ed teacher, but got married instead. We have lived in Ohio since 1973, except for two years spent in Alaska, and I have just now started rooting for the Buckeyes, but only when they aren’t playing Michigan. J

How do you spend your time?

Bob and I love sitting on the porch sipping coffee and cooking breakfast on the grill as the sun comes up on a warm summer morning. We love our family “get together's” and they are even more special when the kids can come and spend the night or a long weekend. In the summers we have swimming pool volleyball games, softball games and “corn hole” competitions. I love to cook and my family has learned they’ll probably have to try a new recipe I’ve found in my newest “Paula Deen” magazine. A few years ago I felt that God was leading me to step out of my comfort zone and open up our home to host and share leadership in a Life Group for women only. I’m so glad I obeyed. He gave me the perfect co-leader in Susan Burton (COD’s Children’s Ministry Assistant), and it has been a wonderful, growing experience. Through our Bible studies and sharing, God has been slowly and lovingly revealing areas in my life that He wanted me to grow and areas that needed change. Our Life Group ladies are truly a blessing.
